What's New in the DV-2010 Green Card Lottery?

By , About.com Guide

Question: What's New in the DV-2010 Green Card Lottery?
Answer:

The DV-2010 lottery submission period is now over. Lottery results for DV-2010 will be available online from July 1, 2009, until June 30, 2010. Submission dates for the DV-2011 green card lottery will be published by the State Department in early fall 2009.

About the DV-2010 Lottery

Since DV-2005, the Department of State has been using an online registration system for all Lottery entries: paper submissions are not accepted. This caused quite a stir back in 2003 when the online-only requirement was put in place. Thankfully, the Department of State is finally starting to expand their online offerings. This year for the first time, applicants will be able to check the status of their entries online to determine whether or not their entries have been selected. You won't have to worry about missing an online notification: successful entrants will continue to receive notifications by mail.

In addition, Russia has been added back to the list of eligible countries, and Kosovo has made it on the eligible list for the first time.
