According to the LA Times, immigration reform is on the President's agenda next week. A meeting will reportedly take place on Monday with Sens. Chuck Schumer and Lindsey Graham to discuss immigration reform legislation. The bill is expected to closely follow the Obama Administration's original immigration agenda.
The timing of this "renewed effort" does not go unnoticed. The LA Times article says that Obama wants "to advance a bill through Congress before lawmakers become too distracted by approaching midterm elections." But let's not forget there is also a huge immigration rally planned for March 21st in Washington. I think the timing has less to do with midterm elections and more to do with the thousands of immigration activists that will be knocking on Obama's front door in a couple of weeks. Perhaps he thinks he'll look better if he can refer to the Schumer-Graham meeting and say, "We haven't forgotten about immigration reform and I'm working with lawmakers to get legislation into Congress as soon as possible," rather than have nothing to show the supporters to whom he promised immigration reform in his first year.

The pro-illegals just don’t get it. The demonstration on March 21st will just make Americans angry, same as what happened in 2006.
Only this time it will make us even angrier to see these lawbreakers demanding taxpayer-funded freebies and citizenship privileges — in Spanish– shile 20 million American citizens are unemployed and our budget deficit is running at 220 billion dollars a month.
I am happy to see that this administration is taking a small step to getting immigration reform out of the back burner. This president in my opinion is the biggest disaster the United States has seen. He and his Chicago cronies have absolutely no idea on how to govern a nation, they were only good at campaigning. I find myself missing the Bush years when a president had the ‘balls’ to push his agenda thru Congress. This useless trainwreck Obama didn’t get anything done in a whole year with a super majority in Congress. And no, ‘cash for clunkers’ is not an accomplishment. He wasted away a whole year on health care reform, caused bitter division in congress, lost Independent voter support and now health care may even fail due to Bart Stupak’s abortion language disagreement.
Here’s to hoping that Senator Schumer and Graham can get bipartisan support and pass the bill thru Congress by summer recess. I personally don’t see that useless president doing anything to aid this conversation. He will probably hide under his desk when immigration opposition surfaces, much like he did when the ‘teabaggers’ cried death panel last August. Hopefully a real leader will emerge in 2012 and send this coward of a president back to Chicago.

As an American of Hispanic descent, I oppose amnesty. My mother came here legally. My father came here legally. Both of them oppose amnesty. Not because we have no compassion for those that seek a better life here, but because we personally know illegal immigrants. Illegals who have warrants out for their arrest for assault and theft. Illegals who collect welfare because they have four kids with their boyfriend but aren’t married, even though they live with said boyfriend and he makes enough money to support them.
If we go to Mexico or El Salvador and Honduras and say, “I want welfare. I want foodstamps. I want you to pay for my child to go to college. I’m not going to teach them Spanish, that’s you’re responsibility. Oh, by the way, I’m bringing all my gangbanging drug dealing brethren with me. They need access to public services as well” they would LAUGH IN YOUR FACE. This is where many of us are offended: we pay taxes into public services, so our children can go to school with programs that have viciously been cut and overcrowded classrooms, and people who DO NOT pay income taxes get to let their kids flounder in ESL classes for ten years without noticeable improvement.

The English and French had as much a hand in the slave trade as anyone else. And the English language is not the language of America. The Spanish set foot on these lands before the English did and established the oldest known colonial town in the country.
As for the criminal problems in this country, look to your ghettos of American born criminals. Most Mexicans I have met are hard working folk with strong family values.
Not all illegals are Spanish and not all of them crossed the border illegally. Many of them are from all over the world and came here with valid visas. Many just overstayed their visas or their student visas became invalid because they couldn’t afford to register for full time classes one semester, for example, or who’s lawyer didn’t file papers on time. Many have American education, own businesses, employ Americans and pay taxes but not eligible for any benefits or even for getting a driver license. Many illegals came to US 15-20 years ago, assimilated and became part of the culture by now. Then, illegals’ kids were brought to US at young age without their consent, grew up here, got education but have no chance to get a job legally, that’s a shame…
Not all illegals are the same and most of them are not criminals. In my opinion, US needs a reform which won’t give amnesty to everyone but only to those who are really eligible and can prove it (length of stay in US, US education, paid taxes) and would separate those who have criminal records or those who just crossed the border recently and who, i think, should be deported.
All this talk of closing borders to the rest of the world. Seriously? If America isolated itself from the rest of the world, it would simply rot.
There are nations with far superior education systems and infrastructures to the US. Isolate yourself from those nations and you will find that you may be running north to the border yourselves.

1986, Amnesty! Americans were promised there would never be a need for another one. How’s that working out for you? The report I read today states that there may be as many as 38 million illegal aliens in this country. Only 7.2 million have jobs, what are the rest of them doing for a living? Are they growing pot in our National Forests, setting up meth labs, members of the gangs like the 26 that were just arrested in Atlanta in the MS13 gang? Are they smuggling more illegal aliens into the country, smuggling weapons, drugs, running prostitution houses?
Yes, there are some who came here for a better life. That equates to greed for what America has to offer. Many of them, especially those who have American born children, are drawing welfare, foodstamps, EBT, Section 8 housing, ESL classes for their children, medical care in our emergency rooms, etc. Who pays for that? The American tax payer. Let’s not forget the live in boyfriend that continues to help make more babies for Americans to support.

You want to discuss Social Security? I paid into the system for over 50 years, Social Security is not a handout for me, I am only getting a small amount of the money back that I was forced to pay in.
So, suddenly, and amnesty and all these millions of illegal aliens are going to become model citizens? They may even learn to speak English, learn to drive, read the road signs, etc.
If what I have written sounds harsh, it is no more harsh than watching an illegal with six little kids, push two buggies of groceries up to the cashier and pay for it with foodstamps that Americans paid for. Then the boyfriend pulls out a roll of bills to pay for his beer and they load kids, beer and groceries into their new SUV and drive away feeling that they were entitled to everything they got on my dollar.

America allows over a million LEGAL immigrants each year. That’s a generous number and we are a generous people, but there are limits. The dregs of all nations have come here breaking our laws, like the Russian Mafia and Salvadoran MS13. They come from all over the world disrespecting our laws, culture and people. The greatest number, both LEGAL and ILLEGAL come from Mexico.
In the last 15 years millions of legal immigrants from Mexico have followed their dream to America. They respect our laws, culture, freedom, opportunity and people. They have gladly submitted to extensive criminal background checks and health checks. They have paid $1,000s in fees, proven financial responsibility, agreed to not be a financial burden on our nation, learned English and waited patiently to become citizens of the U.S. and pledge their allegiance to our nation. They are honest, have integrity and good character and are welcome additions to our community.
During the same time millions more have come from Mexico illegally to make more money. They have overstayed visas and stolen across our borders like sneak thieves, disrespecting our laws, culture and citizens. They are anarchists, further breaking our laws by using stolen Social Security numbers, fraudulent identity documents, driving without valid licenses or insurance, lying on I-9 forms and taking American jobs in an unholy alliance with criminal employers. They suck services and tax dollars from our economy and could care less about the very real and very extensive economic damage they have caused to American workers through lost jobs and reduced wages. They are dishonest with poor integrity and tarnished character. They have proven themselves to be unworthy of the most valuable citizenship in the world.
There are about 40 million Americans that are recent immigrants. There are 260 million native Americans. American citizens will decide who we allow into our country, not some politician who owes favors to some racist group that supported him.
Judy, you are so correct. No one thinks of our elderly, poor, and veteran Americans who are getting services cut while illegals grab everything they get. These “compassionate” (quote marks fully intended) pro-illegal propagandists never think of the elderly American man or woman who served in WWII or Korea or Vietnam, who paid into our welfare systems all their lives, now ekeing out a living on Social Security and Medicare that gets cut so that we can provide more freebies for lawbreaking foreigners who never paid a dime into our systems.

PS — I am not an immigrant. My family has been here for 350 years. 350 years is plenty of time to become what I am — an American. We have our own culture, our own people, our own history. Unlike the illegals ,I don’t have a second country to go back to if this country falls apart. That’s why, unlike the illegals, I see this country as far more than a big fat welfare office dispensing “free” food stamps and Section 8 vouchers to anyone who sticks their hand out and demands it in Spanish.
My parents immigrated here LEGALLY from El Salvador. I and they find it offensive that millions of illegal aliens could possibly be rewarded with amnesty for breaking our laws when my parents played by the rules, paid fees, WAITED, and came here legally. It is a slap in the face for all LEGAL immigrants and most importantly, to law abiding, tax paying, Americans. I am a democrat and I voted for Obama, but he will lose my vote if he signs an amnesty bill. It is wrong and it is un American.

Want to know the difference between an immigrant and an illegal alien? An immigrant waits patiently and goes through the correct procedures, and are welcomed here. An illegal alien is a trespasser in the middle of the night, who cares nothing about our laws. Think I am kidding? Pass a law that states that any baby born in this country is only a citizen if one of the parents is a citizen of the USA. No more anchor babies. If any person goes to an emergency room, and doesn’t have a SSN then they will be treated and then arrested and deported for breaking our immigration laws. No person can collect welfare , food stamps, medicare, or medicaid unless they are a citizen. Any CEO, or owner of any company employing an illegal(whether they knew about it or not) will get a mandatory 1 year in jail, second offense, two years in jail. Take away these freebies and the illegal will go to another country that will offer them something for nothing.

Why I support the congress have to reform immigration which won’t give amnesty?
Now USA have 12 million illegal people from around the world live and work. All illegal people don’t pay tax because they don’t have SSN and no documents and no data in immigration system. So, if the congress reform immigration that all the illegal people must in the record by finger print and have information data when all these people do criminal that can arrest and punish by Law.
American Citizen don’t want pay taxes for illegal people for get any benefit, medical, food stamps,welfare and let’s illegal people send money back to their country right. You could not take all illegal people back to their country. So, why we don’t get them in the immigration system by finger print and register illegal data for record by law and let’s all illegal pay tax and cannot corect benefit unless they’re U.S. citizen.

They have paid $3,000 in fees, proven financial responsibility, agreed to not be a financial burden on our nation, learned English and waited patiently to become citizens of the U.S.
Not all illegals are the same and most of them are not criminals. In my opinion, America have to reform which won’t give amnesty to everyone but only to those who are really eligible and can prove it (length of stay in US, US education, paid taxes) and would separate those who have criminal records or those who just crossed the border recently and should be deported.

Instead of looking at stereotypes, we must look at the “bigger” picture. Every immigrants’ situation is different. What about those who were victims of sex trafficking, domestic abuse, prosecutions in their home country/communists, and so forth? It is not fully the fault of the undocumented immigrant; but the broken immigration system and the backlog.
Why put a blame on those who do not have a criminal record, and are only here in desperation to find a better way of living? As humans, we need to realize that we cannot treat others like fugitives (especially for those who have not done any harm)

Hello I am married to a illegal immigrant from Mexico. I have 5 children with him. He is facing deportation and I really dont believe it is fair…. He has been here for 10yrs and him and I have been together for 9 of those years. The state wants him to pay child support but then the USA wont let him stay so explain that? I dont understand how you can throw him back to Mexico when his family is here so there is going to be 5 children here wanting to be with there father and cant. Im sure the men and women that fight for us (in the army etc) are wanting to be with there familys to but they have made that choice to join. I dnt think this county is the land of the free.. I want and need my husband to be here not just for me but for his children.. I have 2 other kids so a total of 7 and he is there father too. There dad died in Mexico and they never got to know him beacause of the Laws, now have fair is that?. I dont want to lose my husband now to Mexico again he is mine and my children everything. Everyone does wronge but why should my children have to pay the price because there father is from mexico and is not suppose to be. You explain that to them. I do believe that this isvery unfair and Im sure Im not the only one out here with this problem. I dont have money but i will fight for this because I think we should give the life we have and let Immigrants be here they are just trying to beter there lives as well as ours. They dont come and take our jobs if we really wanted them there wouldnt be opening. Right?! I am just trying to make a point that this issue is so very hard for the women and men who have children in the USA and really cant help take care of them nor be in there lives because they are having to look behind there backs everyday to watch out for INS to pick them up.
