International Adoptions

International Adoptions

Before National Adoption Awareness Month comes to a close, let's take a moment to look at international adoptions.

Adoptions to the United States have averaged a little less than 20,000 per year for the past 10 years. China, Guatemala and Russia have been the countries with the highest number of adoptions to the U.S. for the past 4 years.

If you're thinking about an international adoption, the U.S. State Department recently launched a comprehensive Intercountry Adoption website where you'll find everything you need to know about international adoptions.

Before you submit your application, please be aware that USCIS has found that the majority of intercountry adoption packages are incomplete. The department has recently reminded prospective parents to submit complete petition and application packages to ensure timely processing.
