New Obama Website Leaves Immigration Off the Priority List

Friday November 7, 2008
New transition website for the Office of the President-Elect

The office of the president-elect has launched a new website: Change.gov. The website is a tool to keep the public informed on the latest news, events and announcements throughout the Presidential Transition Project.

As Kathy Gill, About.com's Guide to U.S. Politics mentioned on her blog, there is little difference between the content on the campagin website and the new transition website. There is absolutely no change in content on the immigration issue. For example, we're still not clear on what Obama's definition of "good standing" is, as it applies to his plan to provide a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants who are in good standing.

Browsing through the new website, the one thing that I noticed right away that is troubling but not surprising, is that immigration is not specifically mentioned as one of the Obama Administration's "principal priorities." Sure, the issue is on the list of agenda items, but it is not mentioned as one of the half dozen or so named priorities.

Are any of us surprised? Saddened, perhaps, but not surprised. The website gives the public an opportunity to present their ideas to "help solve the biggest challenges facing our country." If immigration is one of your top issues, let your voice be heard by submitting your ideas to the new administration.

be careful if you comment at Obama’s site, it is used to get more email addresses, just like the old Barky site was.
