Wordless Wednesday: HIV Travel Ban Still in Effect
Back in July, Congress passed a bill that would repeal language contained within the Immigration and Naturalization Act that makes HIV-positive immigrants inadmissible to the United States. The Department of Human and Health Services (HHS) has not rewritten the regulation that lists HIV as a communicable disease, despite pressure from Congress. In fact, the Department of Homeland Security has released a "streamlined process" as an alternative to the special waiver. Why don't they just remove the ban?
An HHS spokesperson told the Associated Press that it's a "time-consuming process" and their goal is to have the revision completed during this administration.
The clock is ticking.
