A Green Card Lottery Surprise: Peace of Mind

Monday September 29, 2008
Green Card Lottery Surprise

The DV-2010 Green Card Lottery begins October 2, 2008 and the instructions are now available from the U.S. Department of State.

There was a surprise in this year's instructions that I didn't know was coming. For the first time, Green Card Lottery entrants will be able to check on the status of their DV-2010 entries online to determine whether or not their entries are selected.

Up til now, entrants who were not selected did not receive confirmation of their status. If you weren't selected, you didn't get a letter in the mail. Selected entrants will still receive notification by mail but starting this year, all entrants can get some peace of mind by confirming their status online. Those who were not selected won't have to wonder if their notifications were lost in the mail.
