Immigrants and Voting: FAQs for Immigrants and New Citizens

Friday September 12, 2008
Voting is a right of all naturalized citizens

The deadline for registering to vote in the upcoming presidential election is fast approaching. If you are a naturalized citizen and eligible to vote, make sure you have registered and received your registration card so you can take part in this important democratic process.

But what if you're a green card holder? Can you take part in the elections? Or what if your naturalization oath ceremony is taking place in a few weeks? Can you fill out your registration card now?

Find the answer to these frequently asked voting questions for immigrants and new citizens. The list is a work-in-progress, so if you have a question related to voting or the electoral process from a new immigrant point of view, feel free to ask it in the comments section below and I'll add it to the master list.
